The park was conceived by Zimmer to become a catalyst to attract technology firms to the Kansas City area. Southlake provides a location where existing technology firms can find business locations that combine the latest technology in telecommunications and electrical distribution with amenities that will permit them to attract and retain quality employees.
Over 12 percent of the land was dedicated to private parks within the development. That area was improved with 10 lakes circled by over four miles of walking and jogging trails and interspersed with picnic areas and exercise stations. As in all Zimmer developments, the entire area was protected by a comprehensive set of private covenants and development restrictions. These covenants and restrictions supplemented city zoning and insure continuing quality development, as well as ongoing maintenance of land and buildings in the park.
Southlake has one of the most highly developed electrical distribution grids in the metropolitan area with electric service from three separate sub-stations to provide redundancy to companies there.
Likewise, fiber optic lines are throughout the park from multiple providers, which assures competitive and consistent telecommunications service. Companies such as Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems, Sprint and Sprint Purchase, Deluxe Check, Mobil Oil, Allied Signal, Deere & Company, Transamerica and New Court Financial Services have chosen Southlake for their area operations. |
